HAVING A NEGATIVE MINDSET WILL NEVER YIELD POSITIVE RESULT

What is a negative mindset?

This is a thought pattern of self doubt, and making assumptions that things will go bad or wrong, while also focusing on unfavorable aspects of situations.

Personality traits of a negative mindset

  • Self criticism, which has to do with judging oneself harshly, and also undermining one’s own abilities.
  • Drawing negative conclusions from isolated events or incidents, which most often than non has nothing to do with present situation.
  • Lack of self accountability, while attributing setbacks to external factors and influences, or other individuals.
  • Making assumptions that things will go wrong, while also focusing on worst case scenarios or possible outcomes.
  • Fear of change, avoiding new opportunities, due to the fear of failure, or getting rejected.
  • Putting one’s thoughts pattern in a negative box, and never seeing the positive aspect of the situation.

The above are personality traits of negative mindset. But here is where things get tricky.

How can one avoid self criticism, while also being accountable for one’s own life choices, and situations?

It is easier for one to avoid self criticism, by always attributing failures and setbacks to external factors or other individuals.

It is also easier for one to hold strong oneself accountable for failures and setbacks by being overly self critical, undermining one’s own abilities to achieve any positive results.

This is where many miss it, they are either one of the two. But this should not be the case if one is to escape the paradox of negative mindset.

The key is in understanding one’s own limitations, while also outlining what can be done to achieve a positive result. Avoiding self criticism is not the same as lack of accountability, but it is understanding one’s own limitations without also undermining one’s own ability to effect positive changes, and achieve positive results. At the end of the day, the biggest factor to one’s own failure, and one’s own success is one’s own self.

  1. We have all known individuals that seem to have terrible luck. If it could go wrong, it does for them. I would be interest in seeing a study done to gage the percentage of those people that live out of a negative mindset as compared to those who are eternally optimistic. Interesting topic.

    • To begin, first i must say, there is no such a thing as luck. What we call luck is only a subjective explanation to an objective truth. That being said, Violent, what exactly do you mean by “gauge the percentage of those people that live out of a negative mindset as compared to those who are eternally optimistic”?
Could you clarify your propose topic?

  2. Sure I want to know how many pessimists undergo lengthy bouts of (what you tell me is not called bad luck, but did not provide me with a word with which to replace it) as compared to people who approach life from a positive aspect. I think it would make an interesting study.

    • I just might write an article about this, because this is a very complex subject matter.
To give a clearer view for better understanding. Luck is an abstract term, it is not practical, neither is it attainable, so it will be difficult to give you an alternative word.
What are the odds that an individual could play a lottery 100 times, and fail 100 times? You could say such a person has ill luck. But the objective truth is something we just cannot comprehend.
      Another example.
Two athletes are to run an 100m race. One has a record time of not more than 11sec, while the other is 15sec. If you are to bet who would you bet on? Obviously the first athlete, because chances are he will most definitely win. But then something unusual happened, he lost to the other guy by a slit sec, because he ran 13sec. His ill fate was someone else’s good luck, and bad luck for you who made a bet in his favour. But the objective reason for his failure was that he hurt his ankle because he miss stepped, of which the reason and odds of that happening cannot be accurately measured because they are factors beyond our control, so we just zeroed it to chances and luck.
At the end of the day luck is just an abstract word used to classify situational outcomes beyond our control, and subjective understanding.

On the comparison between pessimism and optimism. I am still not sure what exactly should be compared about the two. Is it on which is better? If so, better in what aspect?

      • I guess I am asking if people with a negative point of view are more likely so suffer repeated ill fortune than people with a positive view.
I too find this subject intriguing. If you do write more on this topic, I’ll be interested to read it.

      • Oh yes you are right. The objective reality and the human mind are two separate realities. We give meaning to the observable reality.
If you have a negative thought pattern, you will always read negativity to every situation, and nothing positive. Like wise an optimist might always read positivity to every situation and nothing negative.
Both could lead to delusions and self denial.
The key is in understanding one’s own limitations, while also acknowledging one’s own strengths and abilities.
