THE DANGER OF HAVING THE LEAST OF US IN LEADERSHIP

Who is a leader?

A leader can be said to be an individual who guides, influences, or directs a group, community, or organization. This role involves making decisions, motivating other individuals, and taking responsibility for actions or outcomes.

Leaders function in all sorts of sectors, such as politics, business, social movements. The qualities of a good leader include insightful vision, great communication skills, empathy, and the ability to inspire or direct others towards achieving goals.

A good leader is selfless. Their loyalty is to duty, which includes service. They are strong individuals, because it takes discipline, dedication, and strength, to be a leader.

Anyone can take up leadership, but not anyone can be a leader.

When the position of leadership is given to the least qualified, the selfish individual, these could lead to disaster. Rather than performing their duties, they will spend their entire lives in leadership, developing schemes, and means to weaken the strong individuals, to make sure they never stand strong enough to make any real challenge to their leadership. This could lead to tyranny. They are good at everything else, from retaining power at all cost, to oppression, but their leadership duties.

A weak leader is insecure, because such an individual knows he/she is not fit for the role. So they spend more time forcefully clinging to power, and eliminating every possible threat, rather than performing their duties.

A true leader doesn’t feel threatened by oppositions, they simply perform their duties. The only real threat is threat to duty. They separate personal interests from duties when performing leadership roles.

In conclusion, it is important to prioritize efficiency in appointing leadership positions. An efficient leader cares more about duty than selfish interest.

    • That depends on where you look.
The society of today glorifies greed, and shame selflessness. In-fact a selfless individual attracts users and manipulators. I guess this is why it appears as though they are hard to find. This is what is wrong with today’s leadership, where leaders only care about selfish interests rather than duty.

  1. Whereas a selfless leader sounds good in theory, a simple brush through world history will show that the meek rarely if ever inherit the kingdom.
I find humanity a much more worthy characteristic, but that has been pretty much bred out by greed and dominance in every recorded generation.
    Very thought-provoking post.

    • Thanks for your input Violet.
I agree with you to some extent, because we will first have to establish what you mean by meek. I am not of the belief that a good leader should be toothless, that is in-fact worse than a selfish brute, but one who is loyal to duty and service rather than purely selfish interests. In the end, it has a lot to do with the societal culture. The qualities of humanity are inherent in the culture, and what we have today is the survival of the fittest.
