IF YOU WERE BORN DEAF, WHAT LANGUAGE WOULD YOU THINK IN?

No doubt language plays a very important role in the human intelligence. But if an individual has never heard a sound before, how then can one learn to digest sound information, let alone spoken languages?

If one has never heard a sound, how then would one learn to speak? This would mean information would greatly depend on imagery. It is not the case that such an individual cannot speak, there is nothing wrong with the vocal cords, rather they simply do not know how.

Individuals adapt to and are greatly influence by the things one perceives. The human consciousness is void of language, it is simply pure energy. Languages are used for expression. For an individual who has never perceived sound, they will think in images.

Research has shown that the visuospatial ability of a deaf individual is enormous in comparison to that of a person who could hear. This discovery has reshaped how we classify intelligence. Thinking in images seems like a lot of work compared to spoken languages, but it is not like the deaf person has any option, because that is what the mind has to play with.

In essence, it is important for individuals to acknowledge the human limitations and conditioning, in order to perceive its personal biases, thereby presenting the mind with room for infinite possibilities.
